I'm a native New Yorker who daydreamed about giving up the daily grind in NYC for something different. I work in IT, and my digital nomad instincts were in hyperdrive. I married my husband Domenico, a native Italian, over ten years ago. Fueled with a mutual love of travel, we both started exploring the world in search of the perfect vacation home and eventual retirement spot.
Essential items on our dream list: magnificent ocean view, close to an international airport, reliable WiFi, good weather, unbelievable food, and affordable cost of living.
We ruled out cold places or tropical places with too many bugs that always seem to find my husband's sweet blood. We traveled to Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, and Italy on some of our adventures. In the end, Italy checked off all the items on our wishlist.
My husband traveled all around Italy before he moved to America and married me, but he had never been to Sicily. So in 2014, he organized our first trip to the island. It was love at first sight! We didn't realize how big Sicily was and how much there was to discover. It took us three separate trips to get to know the island, and there is still so much more for us to explore.
However, when we reached Castellammare del Golfo, we knew that we had stumbled on to something unique and relatively unknown. The town, the people, natural beauty, food, and culture have captured our hearts. Now we want to spread the word and share it with you.
